Mexican universities expand mental health support services
Universities in Mexico are expanding psychological support services to address the mental health and emotional wellbeing of their academic communities.
At the CULagos San Juan campus, ninth-semester psychology students have launched a free clinical support space. Operating under the motto “Your wellbeing is also part of your training,” the initiative utilizes a Gesell Chamber to provide counseling, accompaniment, and referrals. The project aims to provide an accessible alternative for students facing academic stress, difficulties adjusting to new cities, and poor self-care habits.
Similarly, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) is strengthening its psychological care through prevention and orientation programs. During a meeting at the UAEM Atlacomulco University Center, Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado emphasized the need for empathy and solidarity to support those facing emotional difficulties. The institution highlighted its Psychological Orientation Program (POP), which offers prevention, brief intervention, and follow-up strategies for students, faculty, and administrative staff.
