Mexican universities launch new literary competitions for emerging writers
The University of Guadalajara announced the "Voces Líricas 2026" contest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Revista Luvina. The call invites undergraduate and high‑school students to submit original prose or free‑verse works on the theme of bioethics. A jury will select the best entries, which will be performed by professional actors at the 8th University Drama Tournament. Winners receive a cash prize of 1,500 pesos, a book package and official recognition.
Separately, the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana introduced the Premio Latinoamericano de Literatura Molinos de Viento 2026. Named after the historic "Molinos de Viento" collection founded by Carlos Montemayor, the award targets writers aged 18‑35 from across Latin America. Submissions may include any narrative form that challenges conventional storytelling, from essays and fiction to visual texts. The prize aims to broaden the reach of the university’s cultural initiatives and honor the legacy of the original collection.
