Mexican universities launch water conservation and environmental initiatives

Educational institutions in Mexico are launching initiatives to promote water conservation and environmental awareness. The Universidad de Guanajuato’s Colegio del Nivel Medio Superior (CNMS) hosted the 11th Forum of Water Culture Youth Brigades Experiences. The event, themed ‘Water and Gender,’ brought together 130 students and teachers to discuss the intersection of water access, gender equity, and environmental sustainability through workshops on urban gardens, microplastics, and community water issues.

In Torreón, Coahuila, the Universidad Iberoamericana Torreón introduced the ‘Magda Briones, water for all’ chair during its third Sustainability Congress. Developed in partnership with Pro-Defensa del Nazas, A. C., the academic chair aims to bridge scholarly research with civil society action to protect the Nazas River and the regional aquifer. The initiative honors Magda Briones, an activist known for fighting pollution and defending the Comarca Lagunera’s ecosystems.
