Mexican universities promote environmental sustainability and recycling

Educational institutions in Mexico are launching initiatives to promote environmental responsibility and waste reduction.

In Culiacán, the Instituto Tecnológico de Culiacán (TecNM Culiacán) participated in the ‘15vo. Reciclón 2026’. Led by Director Francisca Piña Zazueta, students from various engineering disciplines engaged in activities focused on sustainability and responsible consumption. The institute hosted a workshop titled ‘Recicla, siembra y crece’ (Recycle, plant, and grow) for children and collaborated with local environmental organizations such as Operación Ambiente and the Culiacán City Council.

In Veracruz, the Universidad Veracruzana (UV) is encouraging the public to adopt more sustainable daily habits. Through the ‘Si la traes, te la llevas’ (If you bring it, take it with you) campaign, the university urges students and citizens to take responsibility for their own waste, particularly in public spaces like beaches and plazas. The initiative promotes the use of reusable items, such as thermoses and containers, to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics.
