Mexican universities report surge in applicants and expand dual‑training programs

The Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana (UTM) in Yucatán received 1,735 admission applicants for 2026, a 30 % increase over the previous year, indicating growing confidence among local youth in the institution’s academic offerings. Rector Marysol Canto Ortiz highlighted the rise as a result of the state government's focus on higher‑education opportunities.

At the Universidad Tecnológica del Valle del Mezquital (UTVM) in Hidalgo, more than 80 students participated in a dual‑training scheme during the January‑April 2026 term. The programme placed them in companies across Cancún, Los Cabos, Mexico City, Querétaro, Morelos and Monterrey, providing hands‑on experience, scholarships and other supports. Rector Leoncio Marañón Priego said the initiative strengthens students’ professional profiles and aligns curricula with market needs, in line with regional education policies promoted by Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar and Education Secretary Natividad Castrejón Valdez.
