Mexican universities use digital tools to promote cultural heritage
Students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) received the ‘Audience Favorite’ award at the Mini Game Work Jam 2026, organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Their project, ‘Xibal Ha: Los secretos bajo el agua’, is an educational video game focused on the underwater cultural heritage of the Hoyo Negro archaeological site in Tulum, Quintana Roo. The game allows players to explore submerged cave systems and encounter Ice Age megafauna through a narrative featuring a Maya-inspired character.
In Puebla, the Universidad Anáhuac Puebla’s Digital Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) collaborated with Museo Amparo to host a video mapping workshop for children. The initiative allowed students to use digital tools, lighting, and projections to reinterpret architectural models. This collaboration aimed to connect technology and design with cultural heritage appreciation through STEAM-based learning.
