Mexican youth voters distance themselves from Morena party

A recent study by Polister Encuestadora indicates a significant shift in the Mexican political landscape, particularly among voters aged 18 to 24. Within this demographic, the “None” option leads voting intentions at 36.0%, while the ruling Morena party has dropped to 13.7%. This segment shows high levels of criticism toward President Claudia Sheinbaum; 58.5% disapprove of her performance, compared to a 34.2% approval rating. This represents a downward trend from 2025, where approval stood at 46.1%.

Despite this dissatisfaction with the current administration, the youth vote is not transitioning clearly to the opposition. Among young voters, Movimiento Ciudadano holds 11.1% of the intention, while other parties trail behind.

Simultaneously, the political opposition in Mexico faces internal challenges and a lack of cohesive leadership. While the PRI seeks a broad front to contest upcoming elections, the PAN has reconsidered its stance on electoral pacts, and Movimiento Ciudadano maintains its rejection of national coalitions. The opposition is also dealing with internal conflicts, including allegations of nepotism in certain municipalities and various legal investigations involving key political figures.
