Mexicana de Aviación expands fleet to ten aircraft

Mexicana de Aviación, the state-owned airline operated by the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), has reached a milestone by incorporating its tenth aircraft into its fleet. The newest addition is an Embraer 190-E2, which brings the airline's total to five Embraer 195-E2 and five Embraer 190-E2 models. This expansion represents half of the airline's planned 20-aircraft Embraer E2 fleet.

The new aircraft must undergo certification processes by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) before entering regular passenger service. The airline stated that this growth is part of a long-term strategy to increase capacity, reinforce routes, and improve connectivity.

Despite the fleet expansion, the airline has faced challenges in meeting its initial connectivity goals. While it originally aimed to serve 20 destinations, it currently operates 19 routes from its base at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The airline has undergone several route modifications, including the cancellation of various routes such as Cancún, Ciudad Juárez, and La Paz during its development phases.
