Mexico Accepts Iran Football Team Training Base for World Cup 2026 After US Declines

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico will host the Iran national football team’s training camp during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team’s base will be set up in the border city of Tijuana, allowing Iran to bypass visa difficulties.

Iran’s football federation confirmed it received FIFA approval to locate the camp in Mexico after the United States refused to host the team. Sheinbaum said, “We answered ‘yes’ without any problem,” emphasizing Mexico’s willingness to accommodate the squad. Iran will also play its group‑stage matches in the United States later in the tournament.
