Mexico advances inclusive bus upgrades in Xalapa and Chihuahua

In Xalapa, municipal authorities led by Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos are replacing an aging fleet with 60 new buses equipped with audio announcements, visual signage, bike racks and spaces for guide dogs, aiming to improve accessibility for people with visual or auditory disabilities and to modernise urban mobility. The project also includes coordinated planning of new bus stops and a proposed terminal site to support the expanded service.

In Chihuahua, Secretary General of Government Santiago De la Peña presented the “Movilidad que conecta oportunidades” program, highlighting that the BRT systems in Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juárez have earned the Spanish AENOR certification for quality, safety, comfort and environmental impact. Route re‑engineering has optimized 45 feeder routes and modified 12 main lines to better link residential areas with schools, hospitals and commercial zones, including the Bowí‑UACH corridor that serves about 1,600 students daily without additional budgetary costs.
