Mexico advances legal reforms to protect victims of gender-based violence

In Puebla, state deputy Pável Gaspar Ramírez introduced a legislative initiative to amend several state laws, aiming to prevent the revictimization of children during investigations of sexual and family violence. The proposal requires immediate, single‑time evidence collection, specialized medical and psychological care, and child‑friendly judicial facilities to safeguard the physical and mental health of minors.

In Mexico City, the Green Ecologist Party (PVEM) presented a bill to create a dedicated Women’s Prosecutor’s Office with technical and operational autonomy. Party coordinator Jesús Sesma said, "El sistema de procuración de justicia debe evolucionar para responder con mayor rapidez, sensibilidad y especialización a este tipo de casos," emphasizing the need for specialized, gender‑sensitive investigation to reduce impunity and avoid revictimization of women.

Both measures seek to strengthen the justice system’s response to gender‑based violence and improve protection for victims across Mexico.
