Mexico advances malaria‑free certification in Veracruz and leishmaniasis task force in Yucatán
The health authorities in Veracruz are intensifying surveillance, vector control, and staff training to meet national and international standards for certification as a malaria‑free state. Coordinated efforts involve the Department of Vector‑Borne Disease Control, state health jurisdictions, IMSS‑Bienestar and private labs, with regular technical reviews and verification visits during the rainy season.
In Yucatán, the state Secretariat of Health has established a Technical Group for the Attention of Leishmaniasis. The group will meet biannually—or convene earlier if epidemiological conditions require—to coordinate surveillance, laboratory diagnosis, clinical care and the development of a state action plan aligned with national guidelines from Cenaprece. Representatives from epidemiological surveillance, vector programs and specialized medical services will work together to strengthen prevention, early detection and treatment of the sand‑fly‑transmitted disease.
