Mexico advances mobility through national strategy and local infrastructure
Mexico's National Mobility and Road Safety Strategy (ENAMOV) 2023-2042 proposes strengthening financing mechanisms to expand and improve public transportation services. The plan involves cooperation between federal, state, and municipal governments and suggests modifying the Social Infrastructure Contribution Fund (FAIS) guidelines to increase allocations for public transport and road safety infrastructure.
Key objectives include establishing a National Public Transport Policy to integrate various collective transport systems through unified physical, operational, and payment methods. The strategy also emphasizes digitalization, proposing digital registries for concessions, routes, and operators, alongside real-time applications for users to track service intervals and destinations.
At the local level, San Pedro Garza García is implementing its own mobility strategy to reduce travel times. Mayor Mauricio Farah Giacomán highlighted infrastructure projects such as the Gómez Morín-Calzada del Valle-Chivas distributor and improvements to Alfonso Reyes Avenue. The municipality's Circuito San Pedro system currently covers 75 percent of the area with 11 routes, and a new Mobility Management Center has been established to coordinate traffic via synchronized signals and sensors.
