Blanca Merari launches women’s support card in Puerto Morelos

Municipal president Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz inaugurated the Tarjeta Mujer Portomorelense y Mujer Leonense, the first social aid scheme in Puerto Morelos funded entirely with municipal resources. The card provides a monthly subsidy of 1,300 pesos for the purchase of basic food items, aiming to improve family nutrition.

More than a thousand women applied; 500 were selected according to the program’s operating rules approved by the town council. The initiative includes a Social Oversight Committee with participation from the internal control office, councilor Antonio Chuc, and program director Luis Gerardo Canul Mas, to ensure transparency and citizen monitoring. The program is presented as complementary to state and federal social programs, reinforcing coordination across government levels.
