Mexico allocates 4.5 bn pesos to support Sinaloa corn producers

The federal government of Mexico, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, announced a 4.566 billion‑peso package of incentives for 26,800 corn producers in the state of Sinaloa. The support covers roughly 3.5 million tonnes of corn grown on 348,045 hectares and is part of the Sistema de Ordenamiento de la Producción y Comercialización del Maíz Blanco created in May to guarantee fair prices amid low international corn prices.

The program, overseen by Secretary of Agriculture Columba López, offers higher purchase prices, seed and agro‑chemical assistance, and will remain open for applications, complaints or clarifications until 15 August. Sinaloa’s interim governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde thanked Sheinbaum and highlighted the commitment to the region’s farmers.
