Mexico allocates budget for new aircraft and sargassum management

The 2027 Federal Expenditure Budget Project allocates significant funding to Mexico's military branches for aviation and environmental management. The Mexican Air Force has been assigned approximately 437.8 million pesos (roughly 21 million USD) to initiate the acquisition of C-130J Super Hercules tactical transport aircraft. Lockheed Martin has confirmed Mexico's integration into the global operator program for these aircraft, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.

Additionally, the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) is slated to receive 1.867 billion pesos (approximately 110 million USD) to manage sargassum issues in Quintana Roo throughout 2027. This budget is designated for infrastructure and specialized equipment, including oceanic and coastal sargassum collection vessels, tugboats, and logistical support buildings. The initiative aims to provide SEMAR with the operational capacity to collect seaweed before it reaches the shore, covering the state's entire coastal and insular strip.
