Mexico allocates over 3.4 bn pesos to road upgrades in Zacatecas and Sonora

Governor David Monreal Ávila supervised the rehabilitation of the Fresnillo‑Valparaíso–Vicente Guerrero road in Zacatecas, a 38.7‑km stretch receiving more than 30.2 million pesos from state resources. The project, part of the Programa Rescate Carretero for the 2026 Year of Progress, has reached about 13 % physical progress and includes asphalt resurfacing, seal coat, weed removal and other safety measures.

Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño announced a boost of the Sonora road‑conservation and modernization program to over 3,400 million pesos for 2026. The expansion adds 1.8 bn pesos for the Sonoyta‑Puerto Peñasco highway and redirects 450 m pesos to the Cananea‑Agua Prieta road, alongside works on multiple corridors such as Janos‑Agua Prieta, Hermosillo‑Chihuahua and Ciudad Obregón‑Hermosillo. The program has formalised 15 public‑work contracts and initiated nine tender processes, aiming to improve connectivity, tourism and regional economies.
