Mexico and Argentina back FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) have expressed formal support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, despite calls for his resignation from other major footballing bodies. While CONCACAF, UEFA, and the Asian Football Confederation have issued statements seeking leadership change and improved governance, the FMF has stated it supports Infantino’s leadership to ensure the continued development of football through institutional empowerment.

Reports suggest this support may be linked to a potential structural shift for Mexican football. It has been alleged that Infantino may facilitate Mexico’s move from CONCACAF to the South American confederation, CONMEBOL. This move would follow long-standing tensions between the FMF and CONCACAF, particularly regarding the ability of Mexican national teams and Liga MX clubs to participate in South American tournaments like the Copa América and Copa Libertadores.
