Mexico and Argentina implement new highway security and transit measures

In Mexico, the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes (SICT) has closed 806 irregular access points on the Federal Toll Network between January and July. This initiative, coordinated with the Guardia Nacional and the Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, aims to prevent vehicles from deviating from highways during incidents. The closures, involving the installation of walls and barriers, have occurred across 20 states, with Tabasco recording the highest number of closures at 233.

To further enhance security, the SICT is investing 360 million pesos to install 20 Intelligent Highway Arches. These devices, linked to the C-4 system, will monitor license plates, vehicle dimensions, and speeds. Additionally, the agency plans to construct 15 Safe Stops for federal transport, providing amenities such as medical attention, rest areas, and parking for operators.

In Argentina, the Dirección Nacional de Vialidad has denied claims by Aprocam regarding alleged blockades on Route 7. The agency clarified that the Cristo Redentor International Pass remains closed solely due to adverse weather conditions rather than intentional blockades. Authorities emphasized that closures are strictly based on safety protocols and are coordinated with Gendarmería and Chilean authorities to ensure traveler security.
