Mexico and Argentina issue public safety alerts on phone scams and road conditions
Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Protection Citizenship warned citizens about a surge in phone‑scam calls that appear with the international prefix +44. The calls ring once or twice and hang up, prompting recipients to return the call and incur high‑cost premium‑rate charges. Authorities urged people to ignore such missed‑call alerts, block the numbers and report any unauthorized charges.
In Argentina, civil protection agencies coordinated a road‑safety operation on the National Day of Road Safety in the Lago Escondido area of Tierra del Fuego. Police, the National Road Safety Agency and the Transport Regulation Commission inspected drivers’ documentation, verified the use of winter‑approved tires and snow chains, and issued safety recommendations to reduce accidents on snow‑covered routes.
