Mexico and Argentina Report Sharp Increases in Medical Costs

In Mexico, data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI) show that private medical consultations rose 4.8% year‑on‑year in June 2026, while overall medical inflation reached 14.5% by the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to the Comisión Nacional de Seguros y Fianzas (CNSF). The higher prices have also lifted premiums for major medical‑expenses insurance policies and driven up the cost of widely used medicines.

In Argentina, the Superintendencia de Servicios de Salud (SSS) reports that prepaid health insurers have announced plan‑price adjustments for August 2026, with increases of up to 2.1%—in some cases exceeding the June inflation rate of 1.9%. Companies such as Osde, Avalian, Sancor Salud, Swiss Medical and Galeno disclosed the new rates, which also affect copayments. The cumulative rise for the first half of the year ranges from 16.5% to 17.2% nationally, and over 30% compared with the previous year in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.
