Cuernavaca LPG Pipe Explosion Injures Over 20, Triggers Investigations
An LPG pipe exploded on Thursday afternoon in the Las Granjas neighborhood of Cuernavaca, Morelos, causing a fire that damaged homes, vehicles and infrastructure. Initial reports recorded 15 people treated for injuries; subsequent updates raised the total to 21 injured, including six in serious condition, but no fatalities were confirmed.
State authorities responded quickly. The Secretaría de Salud, represented by Mario Ocampo Ocampo, coordinated medical care for the victims, while the Protección Civil Morelos and local emergency services contained the blaze and secured the area. The Fiscalía General del Estado opened a criminal investigation and filed twelve complaints related to the incident.
The Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil Morelos (CEPCM) also launched an administrative proceeding against Tomza‑Gas Titanium S.A. de C.V., the company that owned the LPG unit involved, demanding documentation and a technical review to verify compliance with safety regulations. The agency has inspected over 100 gas‑handling units this fiscal year and will continue monitoring compliance to prevent future accidents.
