Mexico and Brazil boost resilient hospital collaboration

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) hosted a technical exchange with health specialists from Brazil and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/OPS) from July 27‑29. The three parties reviewed practices for building and operating resilient hospitals that can maintain essential services during emergencies, natural disasters and climate‑related threats. Visits included a construction site at Hospital General de Zona de Yecapixtla in Morelos and an operating facility in the State of Mexico, focusing on water, energy, communications, staffing and supply chains.

The meeting also addressed preparation for large‑scale events such as the 2027 women’s football tournament in Brazil. Officials presented risk‑assessment methods, epidemiological surveillance, inter‑institutional coordination and mental‑health support plans to ensure health coverage for both domestic and foreign attendees. No new joint investment or procurement program was announced; the exchange aimed solely at sharing best practices.
