Mexico and Canada Advance Indigenous‑Focused Agro‑Food Trade
Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Columba Jazmín López Gutiérrez, met with Canadian Ambassador Cameron MacKay to deepen bilateral cooperation on agro‑food trade. The two sides agreed to prioritize schemes that expand market opportunities for Indigenous and campesino producers, citing successful Mexican models such as the Escuelas de Campo and the Sembrando Vida program.
The dialogue also covered regulatory and technical coordination to streamline trade, protect supply‑chain integration, and promote fair‑trade rules consistent with the Canada‑Mexico Action Plan 2025‑2028. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s government endorsed the initiative as part of a broader strategy to boost sustainable agriculture, food sovereignty, and shared prosperity across North America.
