Mexico and Chile seek to expand trade and investment opportunities

Mexico and Chile have met for the 16th Free Trade Commission (CLC) to review their bilateral economic relationship and identify new opportunities for trade and investment. The meeting focused on strengthening commercial integration, fostering investment, and promoting economic cooperation through their existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which has been in place for over two decades.

Authorities from both nations discussed trade performance, investment flows, and regulatory, sanitary, and phytosanitary matters. A key outcome of the session was the signing of Decision No. 11, which adopts the transposition of specific rules of origin to the 2022 Harmonized System, aiming to provide greater legal certainty for businesses.

Officials expressed a desire to move the relationship into a new stage by leveraging economic complementarities. Future cooperation will target sectors such as services, the digital economy, and value chains to create more competitive and inclusive opportunities for companies, workers, and consumers in both countries.
