Honduras and Colombia advance key fiscal and social initiatives

In Honduras, the Ministry of Education and the World Food Programme (WFP) have signed a cooperation agreement to optimize the National School Feeding Program. Supported by a five-million lempira contribution from the ministry, the initiative aims to provide technical and operational assistance to ensure food reaches 1.25 million students across 16 departments.

Separately, Honduran courts have ratified the seizure of over $4.2 million in assets belonging to Axel López, linked to the ‘mobile hospitals’ case from the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds, currently held in U.S. bank accounts, are subject to international legal assistance for recovery by the Honduran state.

In Colombia, the 2027 national budget project is advancing through Congress. The proposal includes 634.9 trillion pesos, with significant debates surrounding the allocation of 155.4 trillion pesos for debt service and 86.9 trillion pesos for public investment.

Other regional developments include Mexico's Senate approving a fiscal package that increases the tax on online gambling from 30% to 50%, and Argentina's road workers' union denouncing the retention of over $1 billion intended for infrastructure to meet fiscal balance goals.
