Mexico and Costa Rica municipal waste collection disputes

In San Juan del Río, Mexico, Mayor Roberto Cabrera Valencia rejected the waste‑collection figures presented by local deputy Edgar Inzunza, acknowledging existing service deficiencies and promising corrective actions. He also defended recent street‑improvement projects while noting ongoing infrastructure needs.

In Desamparados, Costa Rica, Councilor Randall Sibaja accused the municipal government of charging illegal fees for garbage collection and of bypassing required public hearings. He filed an amparo lawsuit to restore the previously set tariff and highlighted a lack of proper maintenance for collection vehicles, urging greater transparency and adherence to municipal regulations.
