Mexico and Cuba strengthen cultural ties through arts and music

The Centro Cultural Tijuana (Cecut), an institution of Mexico's Secretariat of Culture, is celebrating its 44th anniversary with an extensive program of regional and international activities. The festivities include the 30th Tijuana International Theater Encounter featuring participants from Argentina, France, the United States, Mexico City, and Baja California. Other scheduled events include a dialogue with San Diego Symphony director Rafael Payare and musical performances such as “Esto es Cuba Big Band”.

In Cuba, cultural ties between Mexico and Cuba were highlighted through a celebration at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana. The event marked the 216th anniversary of Mexican Independence with the traditional “Grito de Dolores” ceremony, led by the Mexican Ambassador to Cuba, Miguel Ignacio Díaz Reynoso. The gala also featured the grand finale of the “Serenata a México” contest, organized by the Mexican Embassy and UNAM-Cuba, which showcased Cuban talent performing Mexican ranchera music and songs by Juan Gabriel.
