Mexico Diesel Price Cap: 20% of Stations Sell Above 27 Pesos per Litre

The Mexican federal government’s voluntary agreement to keep diesel at or below 27 pesos per litre has achieved roughly 80% compliance, leaving about 20% of stations—approximately 2,160 outlets—selling the fuel above the limit. Authorities including the secretariats of Energy and Finance, Profeco, Pemex, the National Energy Commission and the National Guard have published lists of non‑compliant stations. Baja California leads with 358 stations above the cap, followed by Tamaulipas (178), Michoacán (166), Jalisco (161) and Sonora (161). The average national diesel price was reported at 27.10 pesos per litre. Examples cited show compliant stations such as Pemex Operadora Río Colorado in Hermosillo selling at 26.95 pesos, while a non‑compliant station in Cancún sold at 28.48 pesos. President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated the call for all stations to join the effort, and Profeco continues to monitor the market, providing a public map for consumers. The government maintains fiscal incentives—IEPS stimulus, reduced card‑payment commissions, and Pemex supply discounts—to sustain the price cap.
