Buenos Aires province rolls out stricter professional driver licences and smart truck‑weight sensors

The Province of Buenos Aires has begun implementing a new system for professional driver licences. Under a delegation agreement with the National Road Safety Agency, the scheme introduces tighter psychophysical, theoretical and practical examinations and distinguishes between jurisdictional licences (used only within the province) and interjurisdictional licences (for inter‑provincial or international transport). External providers registered with the agency will conduct the assessments for interjurisdictional drivers. Transport Minister Martín Marinucci said, “We are giving an important step to further professionalise driving in the province. The safety of the road does not admit shortcuts or improvisations.”

At the same time, the provincial Directorate of Roads is installing Weigh‑In‑Motion (WIM) sensors on Routes 30 and 51. The dynamic scales can weigh trucks at speed, automatically photographing plates of overloaded vehicles for enforcement. The technology is part of an Integrated Load‑Control plan that aims to deploy 40 dynamic scales across more than twenty corridors between 2025 and 2027, protecting road infrastructure and improving road safety.

Authorities also warned of fraud attempts linked to the new licence procedures, urging applicants to verify official channels.
