Mexico and Ecuador strengthen international diplomatic and security ties

In Mexico, the installation of the Mexico-Libya Friendship Group aims to strengthen parliamentary dialogue and identify new areas of cooperation. Federal Deputy Pedro Vázquez González emphasized the importance of fostering exchanges in education, economics, science, and technology. The group also seeks to advance cooperation in cultural heritage protection, building upon a 2025 memorandum of understanding between Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History and Libya's Department of Antiquities to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.

In Ecuador, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with President Daniel Noboa to discuss combating organized crime. Rubio praised Ecuador's efforts against transnational crime and announced plans to request an additional $45 million from the U.S. Congress to dismantle criminal groups, along with a potential $10 million for combating illegal mining. Additionally, the U.S. will provide a 110-foot Coast Guard vessel to support Ecuadorian forces in their security operations.
