Mexico and EU strengthen ties amid global geopolitical tensions

Delegations from the Mexico-European Union Joint Parliamentary Commission (CPM) met at the Mexican Senate on September 22 and 23 for their XXXIII Ordinary Meeting. Led by Mexican Senator Beatriz Robles Gutiérrez and Spanish MEP Antonio López-Istúriz White, the meeting addressed concerns regarding ongoing armed conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and economic disruptions affecting international stability.

The participating members emphasized the need to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation to counter the fragmentation of the international system. They highlighted the potential for Mexico and the European Union to contribute to a global order based on balanced, inclusive international law with clear and reciprocal rules.

A key focus of the meeting was the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement, described as a historic event that begins a new era in birregional relations. The delegates noted the agreement's potential to bolster labor rights, environmental protection, sustainable development, and social cohesion. The joint declaration reaffirmed a commitment to multilateralism, the peaceful resolution of disputes, state sovereignty, and human rights.
