Mexico and Guatemala deliver aid to vulnerable families

In Huixquilucan, Mexico, the municipal government distributed more than 11,000 economic assistance cards—including “Familiar”, “Mamá Soltera”, “Plateada” and “Personas con Discapacidad”—to single‑parent households, people with disabilities and low‑income families. Mayor Romina Contreras said the program, running for 11 years, aims to strengthen household economies without affecting other city services.

In San Pedro Soloma, Guatemala, the Ministry of Social Development handed out 5,720 bags of pre‑mixed concrete to 88 families in the Ixtiquiz community, enabling them to replace earthen floors with solid surfaces. The “Mano a Mano” strategy, promoted by President Bernardo Arévalo, targets remote, poverty‑stricken areas to improve living conditions and reduce gastrointestinal illnesses, especially among children.
