Mexico and Peru announce new scholarship programs for students

Mexico's Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación opened the SECIHTI scholarship for single‑parent mothers pursuing a university or technical degree at a public institution. Applicants must be the primary or sole economic provider for at least one child under 18. The aid includes a monthly payment of 4,500 pesos, an annual 2,000‑peso material allowance, and a one‑time 20,000‑peso grant for enrollment and transport. Applications are accepted until 27 August 2026.

Peru's Programa Nacional de Becas y Crédito Educativo (Pronabec) launched the fourth round of the Beca 18 program, offering 2,000 fully funded spots for university or technical studies. The call is limited to pre‑selected candidates who scored highest in earlier stages and meet academic and enrollment criteria. The selection period runs from 31 July to 9 August 2026. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, accommodation, food, local transport, study materials, an English course, a laptop and inter‑provincial travel, except for the “Children of Teachers” category.

Both programs aim to reduce educational dropout and promote higher‑education access for financially vulnerable groups.
