Mexico and Spain accelerate AI integration in school curricula

Carlos Astengo‑Noguez, director of the Center for Numerical Analysis and Data Science at Tecnológico de Monterrey, warned that Mexico will fall behind if its educational programs do not incorporate artificial intelligence. He noted that the university has been adding AI content since 2019 and now offers new degrees such as Data Science Engineering and AI Engineering, while stressing the need for ongoing teacher training, cybersecurity, ethics and governance in curricula.

In Spain, a new distance‑learning course for primary‑school teachers teaches the use of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Canva. The 25‑hour program, limited to 75 participants, shows teachers how to generate rubrics, lesson plans, images, videos and interactive QR‑code resources with AI, aiming to boost classroom creativity and digital competence.
