Mexico and US advance trade negotiations amid toll tax adjustments

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Mexico and the United States are in advanced stages of trade negotiations, though a definitive agreement has not yet been reached. The discussions, led by Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, focus on reducing tariffs affecting the automotive, steel, and aluminum industries. While US President Donald Trump suggested a deal is imminent, Sheinbaum emphasized that pending issues remain and no formal announcement has been made.

Separately, the Mexican government announced adjustments to tax benefits for the transport sector. For 2027, the Ministry of Finance (SHCP) will cap the toll credit against Income Tax (ISR) at 250 million pesos in annual revenue, down from a previous 300 million peso limit. President Sheinbaum stated this change will only affect approximately 170 companies, representing about 6 percent of the country's freight transport firms, while 94 percent of taxpayers will maintain their benefits.
