Mexico and U.S. launch joint border security operations
Mexico and the United States conducted joint security exercises along the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border region to demonstrate coordinated response capabilities. The operations follow Washington’s recent formal designation of the Juárez Cartel as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, a move intended to increase financial and logistical pressure on the group.
The binational deployment included the U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Mexican National Guard, and military personnel. The exercises featured specialized equipment, including helicopters and ground patrols along the Rio Grande.
In a separate but related security action in Ciudad Juárez, Mexican authorities arrested 21-year-old Walter Gilberto G. R. after intercepting a Cadillac linked to a shooting on August 6. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol with 12 rounds during the arrest.
