Mexico and US seize 60,000 cigarette packs at AIFA

Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) confiscated 60,000 cigarette packs concealed as "data cables" in 75 cartons weighing about 1,571 kg at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The shipment, originating from Bangkok, was identified after a real‑time information exchange with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) under an existing memorandum of understanding.

The Mexican authorities filed an intellectual‑property lawsuit on behalf of the brand owner and highlighted the operation as part of broader bilateral efforts to combat illicit trade and protect national security through intelligence and risk‑management cooperation.
