Venezuela faces nationwide protests over electricity crisis

Venezuela is experiencing widespread protests and social unrest due to a severe electricity crisis. Residents in at least eight states, including Aragua, Carabobo, Zulia, and the Capital District, have taken to the streets to demonstrate against frequent and prolonged power outages. Protesters have utilized methods such as pot-banging (cacerolazos) and burning tires to demand immediate solutions from the state electricity company, Corpoelec.

Opposition leaders and NGOs have criticized the government's response. While Vice President Delcy Rodríguez attributed the instability to the El Niño climate phenomenon and called for energy conservation, activists from Monitor Ciudad and politician Henrique Capriles argue the crisis stems from years of mismanagement and a lack of investment in the national electrical system. Critics note that a significant portion of the country's thermoelectric capacity is reportedly inoperative.

Demands from the public extend beyond electricity, including calls for improved water services, better wages, and greater transparency regarding the national electrical grid's status.
