Mexico animal rescue groups call for public aid to help stray dogs

Independent rescuers in Atizapán, State of Mexico, have appealed to politicians and citizens for donations of veterinary supplies, medicines and food for the municipal animal protection unit. They note a lack of equipment such as X‑ray and ultrasound devices, and cite official estimates of about 174,558 stray dogs and cats in the municipality. In July 2026 the unit rescued 44 dogs, 29 of which were adopted.

In Saltillo, Coahuila, the rescue group Perrunos UAAAN, led by Diana Rodríguez, is urging residents to place water containers in streets, plazas and businesses to protect stray dogs from extreme heat. Rodríguez warned that heatstroke can be fatal for dogs and asked owners to ensure proper care for their pets. The group also provided a hotline for reporting animal abuse or neglect.
