Mexico arrests suspect in 450,000‑peso World Cup ticket scam
Authorities from Quintana Roo and the State of Mexico arrested Brian Isaí “N” on suspicion of defrauding a victim of 450,000 pesos (approximately $22,000) by promising rental of a box seat at Estadio Ciudad de México for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The victim signed a contract on May 6, made three payments of 150,000 pesos each, and was shown photographs and videos of the alleged box, but never received any tickets. The last contact from the suspect was on June 8, after which he stopped responding.
Police located the suspect in Zumpango, State of Mexico, and, following a judicial arrest order, transferred him to the municipality of Benito Juárez in Quintana Roo, where his legal status will be resolved.
The case highlights a fraudulent scheme surrounding World Cup ticket sales and the coordinated effort of Mexican prosecutors to apprehend the alleged perpetrator.
