Mexico assumes PAHO Executive Committee presidency for 2026-2027

Mexico has assumed the presidency of the Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for the 2026-2027 period. The announcement followed the 63rd Directing Council of PAHO and the 78th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Americas held in Washington, D.C.

During these sessions, Peru was appointed to the vice presidency, and Trinidad and Tobago will hold the rapporteurship. Mexico was also elected to join the Subcommittee on Program, Budget, and Administration.

The Member States reached a consensus on ten resolutions addressing critical health issues, including health emergencies, antimicrobial resistance, and arboviral diseases. Representing Health Secretary David Kershenobich, Margarita Pérez Villaseñor emphasized that cooperation with PAHO allows countries to build capacity and share knowledge that cannot be developed in isolation. Mexico also expressed support for strengthening Regional Revolving Funds, describing them as “one of the most valuable public goods in our region.”
