Mexico City and Cuautitlán Izcalli implement legal protections for property and water

Authorities in Mexico are implementing various measures to address property rights and utility disputes. In Mexico City, Head of Government Clara Brugada Molina announced the launch of the Property and Anti-Dispossession Legal Defense office. This initiative will deploy approximately 100 lawyers to the Zócalo to provide legal guidance to citizens facing property conflicts and potential illegal seizures.

In response to organized real estate dispossession, political groups like the PAN have proposed legislative strategies to protect private property through early warning systems and specialized courts. Local borough leaders in Benito Juárez and Miguel Hidalgo have also announced support mechanisms, including legal advisory modules and direct communication lines for victims of property theft.

In Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mayor Daniel Serrano Palacios has secured a judicial injunction to prevent the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) from performing service cuts at strategic water infrastructure sites. The suspension aims to protect the municipal water supply following unannounced interventions by the CFE. Additionally, the municipality has identified 58 properties subject to illegal occupation and is pursuing legal action to recover them.
