Mexico authorities detain men in separate fatal animal abuse cases

Heriberto S. P., a 54‑year‑old resident of the Misiones del Real neighborhood, was detained after neighbors reported that he tied a dog with a cable around its neck and dragged it through the street until it died. Municipal police responded to a 911 call, identified the suspect, and the animal welfare department handled the carcass.

Jesús García, 49, was arrested in the Cuauhtémoc district of Mexico City after he left two dogs locked inside a vehicle under intense sun. One dog died from heatstroke and the other suffered severe dehydration. Neighbors broke a window to rescue the animals, and city police took García into custody for alleged animal mistreatment.
