Mexico automotive market shows growth in new and used vehicle sales
New vehicle sales in Chihuahua have shown a positive trend, with 23,859 units sold from January to September, representing a 2.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. Multi-purpose vehicles led the market with 11,060 units, followed by light trucks and compact cars.
There is significant growth in alternative technology vehicles. Between January and May, sales of hybrid and electric vehicles rose by 27.5 percent. Plug-in hybrids saw a 346.8 percent increase, while electric vehicle sales grew by 63.7 percent. Combined, these technologies accounted for 12 percent of the state's new light vehicle market by the end of May.
Nationally, the used car market in Mexico is showing signs of recovery following a decline in July. Sales of pre-owned vehicles grew by 2.9 percent in August and 6.8 percent in September. Despite this recent momentum, the total sales for the third quarter remained nearly stable with a slight contraction of 0.23 percent compared to the same period last year.
