Back-to-school costs surge across Latin America as Mexico launches discount fairs
Families in several Latin American countries are facing higher expenses for school supplies as the new academic year approaches. Venezuelan shoppers list pencils at 753‑100 bolívares and notebooks up to 1,000 bolívares. In the United States, an analysis shows the average school‑supply bill has risen 7.7 percent to $173.45 per student, pushing total annual school‑related costs toward $4,000 per child.
The Mexican Ministry of Education also released the official list of required supplies for first and second grades, aiming to help families plan purchases and avoid unnecessary spending.
