Mexico becomes primary avocado supplier as other regions' seasons end
Mexico is becoming the dominant source of avocado supply for the North American market as seasons in California and Peru wind down. While Mexico produced approximately 6.0 billion pounds in 2025, with 2.38 billion pounds exported to the U.S., industry experts emphasize that success depends on matching various fruit sizes and grades with specific market demands rather than just total volume.
In Michoacán, Mexico, recent rain and thunderstorms have caused short-term harvesting and shipping disruptions, though overall supplies remain adequate and market conditions are expected to stay steady. Quality management is a current focus for growers due to wet field conditions.
In California, the harvest is roughly 95% complete, with volumes expected to decline. The remaining crop is heavily weighted toward larger sizes. Meanwhile, the Peruvian season is nearing completion, with final containers currently in transit.
