Mexico begins construction of Hospital Regional del Río Sonora in Ures

Federal and Sonora state officials laid the first stone for the Hospital Regional del Río Sonora in Ures, Sonora. The project, backed by President Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Alfonso Durazo, involves an investment of more than 500 million pesos and is scheduled for completion in April 2027.

The new facility will serve over 60,000 residents of the Río Sonora basin, offering hospitalization, operating rooms, a laboratory for heavy‑metal analysis, epidemiological surveillance, and specialties such as nephrology, hemodialysis, toxicology, pediatrics, gynecology and internal medicine. It is part of the Plan de Justicia for Cananea and the Río Sonora, addressing health and environmental needs after the 2014 toxic spill. Federal representatives, including Secretary of Infrastructure Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina and environmental prosecutor Mariana Boy Tamborrell, attended the ceremony.
