Mexico boosts senior benefits with new bonus scheme and universal income rollout

The federal government of Mexico, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, will provide a year‑end "aguinaldo" bonus to older adults who register with the INAPAM Service of Productive Linkage and secure formal employment with participating companies. The bonus is paid under standard labor law and includes social security coverage, aiming to promote the inclusion of seniors in the labour market.

Mexico City’s universal income programme (Ingreso Ciudadano Universal) now assists more than 97,000 residents aged 57‑59, delivering 2,000 pesos every two months. The programme, described by city‑wide mayor Clara Brugada as “the only program in the country that recognises the right of everyone to a guaranteed income from the State,” aims to expand to 155,000 beneficiaries by 2026 and eventually provide universal coverage for this age group, linking recipients to future pension schemes.
