Mexico celebrates dance through Monterrey festival and INBAL anniversary

The 41st Metropolitan Contemporary Dance Encounter will take place in Monterrey, Nuevo León, from October 15 to 21. Organized by the Council for Culture and the Arts of Nuevo León, the event will feature various performances at the Teatro de la Ciudad and the Centro de las Artes. The program includes works such as “Otro Sitio” by Sunny Savoy, “Escena Lateral,” and “Flor y Canto,” which integrates music, poetry, and indigenous languages.

Separately, the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary on December 31. Alonso Alarcón Múgica, the national dance coordinator, highlighted the institute's role in the history of Mexican dance and its efforts toward decentralization. The commemorative agenda includes the restaging of “Zapata” and publications honoring Guillermina Bravo and the history of the National Dance Prize.
